Recruitment and Training:
The officers in the cadre of Indian Forest Service (I.F.S) are recruited through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). On recruitment the officer trainees are trained at the Indira Gandhi National Institue (IGNFA) Dehradun, Uttaranchal, (India) and the Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, Uttaranchal (India) for 3years. The officers in the class I and class II cadres of State Forest Service (S.F.S) are recruited through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC). The SFS class I officer trainees receive training at the State Forest Service Colleges at Dehradun and Coimbatore. The SFS class II recruits (RFOs) are trained in the Rangers Colleges located at Balaghat (Madhya Pradesh), Dehradun(Uttaranchal),Coimbatore(Tamilnadu) and Kurseong (West Bengal). The other forestry personnel like foresters,forest guards are recruited and trained by the Maharashtra Forest Department. Currently Maharashtra has 5 State Forest Training Institutes (FTIs).
To keep the professional manpower of the department abreast with the latest developments in forest management and other related fields, in-service trainings are imparted through various state and national institutes.
